TACLOBAN CITY – Work and classes in all levels are suspended in Tacloban City Monday (February 8) due to heavy rains and flooding in some areas.
Mayor Alfred Romualdez has issued an executive order on class and work suspension except for those involved in the maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health and sanitation, and traffic management.
He also ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to be on full alert and maintain a functioning mechanism to respond to all contingencies to address any eventualities.
Romualdez said the issuance of the EO is in anticipation of any developments that may arise out of the low-pressure area (LPA) at 580 km East of Davao City (6.5°N, 131.0°E) as of 4:00 A.M.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Service Administration warns of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region.
Cloudy skies and heavy downpours are also experienced in other areas in Leyte and Samar provinces.
