ILOILO CITY — Hotels and resorts at the country’s most popular beach destination of Boracay Island are now required to have its own isolation and quarantine facilities as a measure against the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Governor Florencio Miraflores of Aklan province stipulated this requirement in an amended order that strengthens health protocols for the resort island in Malay town.
“All accommodation establishments are hereby mandated to provide an isolation facility or quarantine facility for probable or suspected COVID-19 cases,” Miraflores said in his newest executive order.
This was after more than 20 workers have been infected by COVID-19 since last month, which started at a posh resort.
The new protocol also mandates that workers or guests who are suspected to have symptoms of COVID-19 must be immediately referred to the COVID-19 Response Team.
They will likewise be taken to Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital to be assessed and whether or not they will undergo swab test.
On his part Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista reiterated that management of hotels and resorts should comply with the new protocols.
Bautista told Manila Bulletin that there was a previous violation with the health protocol in handling a person suspected to have COVID-19 due to miscommunication.
“The previous concerns have been resolved,” Bautista added.
