At least three people were injured while several structures were damaged when a 6.1 magnitude quake jolted Davao del Sur and some parts of Mindanao on Sunday, the Office of Civil Defense said.
But the OCD said the wounded victims are residents of Makilala town of North Cotabato. Those injured are aged two, three, and 61. They were hit by objects that fell during the tremor.
OCD-Central Mindanao spokesperson Jori Mae Balmediano said five houses were also damaged in Kabacan town while three more were damaged in M’lang.
“We are still waiting for more reports because there is raw information that several more houses were damaged,” said Balmediano.
On the other hand, two small churches also sustained damage in M’lang town while the provincial hospital of Sultan Kudarat also incurred cracks.
Balmediano said they also received reports that the quake triggered minor landslides in North Cotabato. She added that they are also monitoring the five barangays in North Cotabato where a landslide occurred in 2019.
Reports also disclosed that three hospitals in Kidapawan City were forced to evacuate their patients and medical staff immediately after the earthquake to give authorities enough time to check on the structure for any damage.
Balmediano said the four barangays in Kidapawan City also implemented a preemptive evacuation after seismologists warned that there may be aftershocks.
Part of the measure, according to her, is the order from the City government to temporarily close public offices on Monday morning, except for offices that provide basic health and social services.
