The University of Santo Tomas (UST) listed Medicine, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, and Nursing as programs that will have limited face-to-face classes once it secures approval from national health and education authorities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the university vowed to enforce strict health and safety protocols once face-to-face classes resume.
"The face-to-face activities to be carried out while ensuring strict observance of safety and health protocols, will better equip our future medical and allied health professionals in serving their future patients competently and thus saving more lives," its statement read.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Wednesday approved UST's proposal to hold limited face-to-face classes for medical and allied health programs.
However, he reminded UST officials not to force students to attend face-to-face classes, especially while the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) persists.
The university said it will begin complying with the other requirements of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
President Duterte recently approved the CHED's proposal to allow the holding of limited face-to-face classes for medical schools and allied health science programs.
This is to ensure that the country has enough doctors and other medical professionals to fight the pandemic.
