Online plea for Robredo presidential run gets over 20k signatures
The “I am ready for Leni” online signature campaign passed the 20,000-mark on Thursday afternoon, further fueling the support for Vice President Leni Robredo to run as president in the 2022 polls.

The online petition started four days ago but gained traction on Wednesday amid her supporters’ call for the vice president to lead the opposition next year.
As the leader of the opposition, Robredo is widely seen by many as the rightful candidate against anyone the administration will field. The vice president, busy with her livelihood programs, hasn’t commented on the signature campaign and has in fact repeatedly said she’s not thinking about next year’s polls.
Dubbed as “I am ready for Leni,” the petition on Change.org garnered more than 20,000 votes as of Thursday afternoon.
In it, the supporters wrote: “It is our deepest desire to see the Philippines back on its way to being one of the most economically progressive, politically transparent, humane and respected countries in Asia. We believe that Vice President Leni Robredo can lead us to this goal by leading the country as the next duly-elected President in 2022.”
Those who signed the petition gave reasons as to why they want Robredo to run for president.
“Transparent. Accountable. Action-oriented. Efficient. These are the things that are sorely lacking in the present leadership. These are the same things that VP Leni is capable of, as seen in the way she led and served these past four years. Leni will get our country back on track,” a certain Jenny V. said in the comments.
“We need a ’thinking’ president to run the country,” Maria Cecilia Ronquillo-Quesada said.
“Leni is the only decent and very capable leader nowadays. If she can troubleshoot and be really creative under a regime that’s hostile to her, imagine what she can accomplish when she’s at the helm. Go Leni!,” Arlyne Ocampo added.
Being her party’s highest-elected official, Robredo is the chairperson of the Liberal Party. A core group of Robredo’s supporters, met in Quezon Province earlier this week to push for her candidacy. Their goal is also to raise campaign funds.
