PVAO clarifies differential pay of AFP retirees not under its jurisdiction

The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) clarified on Monday that the differential pay of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) retirees does not fall under its jurisdiction.

The PVAO made the statement after the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) received numerous inquiries on the release of funds for the 2018 pension differentials for the retired military and uniformed personnel (MUP). The DBM stated that no release has been made to cover the payment for the purpose.

PVAO said the differential pay of AFP retirees falls under the purview of the AFP Pension and Gratuity Management Center (AFP-PGMC), which is the primary office managing the retirement pension of all AFP retirees.

What they are supervising, according to PVAO, are the pension and non-pension benefits of World War II veterans, Korean War veterans, Vietnam War veterans and AFP retirees upon reaching the age of 65, and their surviving spouses.

Meanwhile, the DBM said it will prioritize the release of the current regular pension requirements to ensure that all retired MUPs will be receiving their regular pension for the current year.
