Proactive Dumaguete City 3rd best in Visayas during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Virtual Summit
With a proactive approach, the City of Dumaguete was able to figure prominently in the regional and national rankings in terms of its economic performance.

Dumaguete was recognized as the third Most Competitive Component City in the Visayas based on the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index 2020 Rankings released during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Virtual Summit in December last year.
Mayor Felipe Antonio "Ipe" Remollo also noted another achievement of the city when they ranked 7th in the national level of the Most Improved Component City.
“Without waiting for the national government's support to Dumaguete in terms of infrastructure, we spent money to build two bridges simultaneously during the pandemic. My intention was to control the movement for people to not feel the traffic. Hopefully, the two bridges can already be used next month," said Remollo who was a guest of the Network Briefing program hosted by Sec. Martin Andanar of the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
"We try as much as possible to encourage business liaise with business organizations in Dumaguete. We promote small entrepreneurs, build infrastructure that will prepare Dumaguete for the big thing - the competition - especially pag mawala na itong pandemic and, of course, kung meron na iyong vaccines natin (when this pandemic ends and when the vaccines arrive), we can go back to the new normal," added Remollo.
Apart from giving land area to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for the construction of their facility, Remollo is also putting premium in building leisure parks.
“"I'm very partial in building more parks - leisure parks, and open spaces. For me, these are the heart and soul of every community," added Remollo, noting that children who have not been able to go out because of the pandemic, will be able to make use of this. (Philippine Information Agency)
