A courier company in Quezon City was robbed on Monday afternoon, leaving one robber dead while another injured as police conducting surveillance in the area responded to the scene, police said.
Based on initial investigation, the robbers engaged the responding police officers in a shootout that prompted the lawmen to also fire shots at them, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Kamuning Police Station Commander Alex Alberto said in an interview with reporters.
The incident happened at the Matalino St. branch of courier company LBC.
Two more robbers managed to escape, Alberto added, noting that around P70,000 cash was taken.
The robbers, according to Alberto, had been under their surveillance for some time now as they had been known for robbing LBC branches in different parts of Quezon City.
"They had been involved in a series of incidents victimizing LBC branches, including the one that happened last time in Cubao and Anonas," he told reporters in Filipino.
The QCPD public information office has yet to release more details on the incident.
