The members of the SMPO gallantly stood their ground for 15 minutes as an undetermined number of insurgents attacked the station at around 8:30 a.m. before fleeing towards the nearby mountainous and forested areas of Sison.

Combat personnel of 13th Regional Mobile Force Battalion (13th RMFBn), First and Second Surigao Del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Companies, and the 29th Infantry Battalion (29th IB) reinforced the embattled SMPO, and immediately conducted hot pursuit operations against the fleeing suspects.

“This senseless act of the CNTs was an insult to the desire of the Surigaonons to live peacefully and a clear manifestation of the continued insolence of the CNTs to the government's call for real and lasting peace,” Caramat said.

He also lauded the bravery of SMPO personnel, not only for defending themselves, but also for securing the lives of the local folk against the Communist terrorists.

No one was reported hurt among the SMPO personnel.
