Bishop Oscar Jaime Florencio of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines welcomed the news that Philippine Army chief Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana is the next chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The prelate believes Sobejana is fit for the position.
"Am just happy for him because I guess he is fit for his position as CSAFP," Florencio said in an interview Friday.
"I have met him few times while he was in Mindanao. And I have heard many things of his accomplishments," he added.
The AFP also welcomed Sobejana's designation as the 55th Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines who is known to his superiors, peers, and subordinates as a "warrior with the heart of a peacemaker."
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the AFP said the incumbent Commanding General of the Philippine Army, epitomizes the finest in Filipino soldiery.
"He earned the Medal of Valor (MOV)—the highest military award that can be bestowed to a soldier for conspicuous and singular act of gallantry above and beyond the call of duty," read the post.
"He is the pride of PMA 'Hinirang' Class of 1987 — the class with 3 Medal of Valor recipients— and the first AFP Chief who garnered the MOV.
Malacanang confirmed that Sobejana is the next AFP Chief of Staff Wednesday.
