Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian has again reminded motorists passing through the city’s NLEX segment never to stop on the expressway amid concerns that the highway’s personnel would reportedly flag them if their toll fee payment cannot be confirmed.

Gatchalian added he already told NLEX officials “to stop this practice” after “the riding public brought” the matter to the local government’s attention.
“Again, hover at 30kph. Don’t do a full stop. We told NLEX to stop this practice. It’s a wrong move to flag down motorists . They should only be stopping those who don’t have RFID (radio-frequency identification) stickers,” Gatchalian said on Facebook Friday.
It was in December last year when Gatchalian first told motorists not to stop at NLEX toll booths as some would still try “to locate the sensors” to ensure that their toll fee payments are confirmed.
He said, if NLEX's system could not easily scan the motorists' RFID stickers, then it should be the problem of the company.
"Passed by toll way sa Valenzuela now... I noticed kahit barriers up na tumitigil pa din mga motorista....hindi na po natin dapat tumigil, slow down yes....but stop no (that although we already implemented a barriers-up policy, several motorists were still stopping. We should slow down but not stop)," he said in his December Facebook post.
"Kaya po barriers up tayo para we can speed up traffic... Problema na ng NLEX yan if hindi mabasa ng sensors nila stickers natin (The reason why we implemented a barriers-up policy is to speed up traffic. It should be the problem of NLEX if their sensors could not easily read RFID stickers. They should fix their sensors," he added.
