The barangay chairman in Marang, Basilan was arrested on Thursday over the killing of a businessman in 2004, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.
Barangay captain of Marang Jamiron Ajijon was the primary accused in the assassination of Roberto Musablin, a known businessman at barangay Manaul, Sumisip, Basilan on September 2004.
The PCG, through BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410), Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM), Coast Guard Intelligence Group – SWM, and Special Operations Unit – SWM, participated in the joint law enforcement operations for the arrest of Ajijon.
Also arrested during the joint law enforcement operations were Bassel Ajijon Eting, Alnasre Amigos, and Johan Amigos.
Operatives also recovered one A2 M16 rifle, five long steel magazines loaded with Cal 5.56 ammos, one Cal 45 Armscor chamber loaded with inserted magazine, two extra magazines of Cal 45 loaded with ammos, and five long steel magazines loaded with Cal 5.56 ammos during the arrest.
Relatives of Musablin claimed that Ajijon is associated with the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) Basilan Base under Sub-Leaders, Furuji Indama, Pasil Bayali, and Radzmil Jannatul.
The PCG said Ajijon is also the leader of the City Hunter, a known gun-for-hire group operating in Basilan.
All arrested individuals were brought to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group Mindanao Field Unit Headquarters at Camp Batalla, Zamboanga City.
The PCG said the joint law enforcement operations were also made successful with the cooperation of the 53rd and 55th Philippine National Police – Special Action Force (PNP – SAF), Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 (RMFB9), Mindanao Area Police Intelligence Office (MAPIO), and Basilan Parole and Probation Administration (PPO).
