PBA to partner with Red Cross for testing, vaccination

The PBA is set to complete a partnership with the Philippine Red Cross for the vaccination and testing of its players and teams.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said finer details are being finalized with the PRC chaired by Senator Richard Gordon in order for the league to secure vaccines from AstraZeneca and Moderna.

Marcial said PBA players can be tapped to take part in infomercials and even the possibility of donating blood as part of the arrangement with the Red Cross.

The families of PBA players could also be part of the vaccination program, Marcial also said.

“Makikipag-partner tayo sa Red Cross regarding sa vaccine, regarding sa saliva test, at tayo naman magbibigay ng mga infomercial o paano magagamit ang mga players natin,” Marcial said after Thursday’s meeting of the PBA Board of Governors.

Figures show that AstraZeneca, made in the United Kingdom, has a 70-percent efficacy rate while Moderna, produced in the United States, has a 94-percent efficacy rate.

Both brands need a pair of dosage in order for the vaccines to meet their effectiveness.

The Red Cross will also provide the PBA the saliva tests, which was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Studies suggest that saliva tests are as accurate as the standard RT-PCR procedures.
