Makati City ramps up vaccination campaign to include even non-residents who are working in the city

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay said on Thursday that the city government is ramping up its free vaccination campaign against COVID-19 among all workers in the city, regardless if they are residents or not.

"So, ang gusto po namin, i-encourage ang mga tao na hindi po residente pero nagtatrabaho po dito sa Makati dahil they are the lifeblood of our country," (We want to encourage those who are not residents but are working here in Makati because they are the lifeblood of our country) Binay said during the visit of the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (C.O.D.E) team headed by the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) in Makati Wednesday.

"We are the financial center, so kailangan po namin i-encourage sila," (We are the financial center, so we really need to encourage them) she added.

Binay also said that while the city is ready in vaccinating its constituents and is just waiting for the vaccines to arrive, to convince people to be inoculated is still the biggest challenge in its vaccination plan.

"The challenge always will be the human side. How do you convince people to get vaccinated?" she said.

She assured that the city is fully ready from pre-vaccination to post-vaccination.

The city government has allotted P1 billion for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines for the inoculation of its citizens.

Binay had previously said that the city has acquired one million doses of vaccines from British-Swedish biopharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca after signing a tripartite agreement with the firm and the national government through the IATF.
