The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) was urged on Thursday to expedite the imposition of sanctions and penalties against rogue barangay officials involved in various illegal activities.

With regards to the road clearing operation orders of the DILG, the concerned citizens said that some rogue officials are purposely using the sidewalks or road right-of-way for private purposes while some permanent structures owned by them are standing on public properties.
On January 23, the DILG has issued another order extending the nationwide Road Clearing Operation 2.0 (RCO 2.0) deadline to February 15.
In an exclusive interview, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya stressed that the same rules apply to Road Clearing 2.0 as in the previous road clearing program.
The calls for the expeditious imposition of appropriate penalties were made after President Duterte recently announced in a public address the names of the 89 barangay captains with ties to irregularities in the cash assistance aspect of the social amelioration program (SAP).
Malaya noted that the barangay kagawad are not facing charges before the Office of the Ombudsman as their cases are being heard by the courts after they were identified as accomplices by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police.
Concerned groups feared that the delayed resolution of the cases against the barangay captains, kagawad, personnel and their cohorts will take long up to the time of the December 2022 barangay level elections.
