Ninety-five more people died because of COVID-19, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday.

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the country jumped to 10,481--- which accounts for two percent of the overall tally of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Based on the latest case bulletin, the country’s COVID-19 tally increased to 518,407 after 2,245 new infections were recorded. Of the total, 32,384 are active cases or those who are still undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, 140 more patients have beaten the disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 475,542.
The DOH said that Baguio City and Cebu City topped the list of areas with the most number of new cases with 121 each, followed by Davao City 102, Quezon City with 87, and Pangasinan with 81.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the government’s Interagency Task Force for COVID-19 has yet to decide if the NCR will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) or if it will shift to modified GCQ.
Vergeire said that the United Kingdom variant of COVID-19 virus poses a threat.
“We have this new variant that supposedly has higher transmissibility. Until we can determine and prove that the UK variant is still confined in just one area and is not spread in the whole country, this will pose a threat to any region,” she said.
“We believe that the IATF considers several factors. So for us, the threats are higher transmissibility, higher cases, and in the event that the UK variant is found in Metro Manila,” she added.
