DOLE allows penalty waiver on alien employment permits renewal
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued an advisory on the waiver of penalties for Alien Employment Permits (AEPs) renewal applications that expired during the imposition of the community quarantine.Â

In Labor Advisory No. 01-2021, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said AEP renewal applications filed beyond the period provided under Department Order No. 214-2020 shall be treated as "new applications and shall not be assessed with penalties."
He added:"The waiver of penalties for such applications shall be observed until February 5, 2021."
In Department Order No. 214-2020, applications for renewal of registration, permit, certificate, or license, which expired within the period of the community quarantine must be filed within 30 working days from the expiration.
An AEP is one of the requirements for the issuance of a work visa to foreigners, who intend to engage in gainful employment in the Philippines.
An AEP is issued once it is ascertained that a foreign worker will be performing a job that local workers are not capable of doing.
