DepEd welcomes President's recall of order easing mobility of children

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday welcomed the decision of President Duterte to recall allowing school-aged children to go out of their homes in select areas.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones, during the Laging Handa Public Briefing, said that the DepEd welcomes this decision because it was made by the President himself.

“Wala kaming problema diyan o agam-agam kasi nung ginawa yung desisyon na iyan, di pa natin nakita kung gaano ka-seryoso ang threat ng pag-develop or paglabas ng mga bagong variants ang COVID-19 so karapatan yan ng Presidente na siya ang magde-decide (We have no problem there or doubt because when that decision was made, we have not yet seen how serious the threat of the new variants of COVID-19 is - it is also the President's right to decide on this),” Briones said.

In a taped public address aired on Monday, Duterte recalled the order of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) allowing children aged 10 to 14 years old to go outside their homes in areas under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

The President made this decision as a “precautionary measure” against the new COVID-19 variant.
