Eastern Samar town mayor contracts COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY - Mayor Amado Candido of Hernani, Eastern Samar confirmed on Thursday, January 21, that he has been infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

He was the sixth local chief executive in Eastern Visayas who was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

The mayor said he was recovering in isolation.

"I am feeling better. I do not lose hope in this situation because I know you are with me in facing this situation, he said referring to his constituents," said Candido.

He said he considered the threat of the virus as part of public service. He also gave the assurance that he will continue serving the people with the help of other local government employees while recovering from the disease.

The Department of Health (DOH) in Region 8 logged 110 fresh cases Thursday, January 22, bringing the total of infected individuals to13,222, with 907 active cases, and 169 deaths.

The region has been tagged as a high-risk area by the DOH due to the high number of infections being logged each day.
