"Twelve out of 35 specimens from COVID-19 positive cases in this capital town have been confirmed to be of the UK variant," said Bontoc Mayor Franklin Odsey in a statement.

Odsey said that local authorities are now undertaking necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus.

"The Bontoc LGU urges everyone to intensify adherence to basic health protocols. Lockdown is still in effect," he said.

"Rest assured that the LGU is doing its best to help deter further spread," he added.

The Department of Health (DOH) has yet to confirm the LGU's report.
