Village chief-turned-NPA rebel yields

ILOILO CITY – A former barangay captain who had joined the Milisya ng Bayan, a local military unit of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Iloilo, surrendered earlier this week in Calinog, Iloilo.

“Sam” yielded to 100.1 K3 FM, a radio station managed by the Civil Military Operations Battalion of the Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division (3rd ID).
Sam told authorities that he was with the NPA militia in Barangay Ginbunyogan.

Based on 3rd ID records, he is the 310th NPA supporter who surrendered in Panay Island this year.

Sam turned over to the 12th Infantry Battalion (12th IB) a caliber .38 magnum with five ammunition; a homemade shotgun with five ammo and a magazine; and one homemade M-16 with seven ammo and magazine.

NPA rebels have been surrendering en masse as the Western Visayas Regional Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (Western Visayas RTF-ELCAC) has been holding peace summits all over Panay Island.
