Taguig set to roll out COVID-19 vaccination plan

The Taguig City government is ready to roll out its coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination program that will be led by medical professionals.

Some 716 doctors, nurses, and midwives will be tasked as vaccinators to administer the vaccine to all Taguig citizens for free. 

The City Health Office (CHO) held a COVID-19 Vaccination Training for all vaccinators at the People’s Hall of SM Aura on Jan. 18 and 19. 

It was conducted by Dr. Norena Osano, CHO head, and Dr. Jennifer Lou de Guzman, National Immunization Program coordinator for Taguig, together with cluster heads for health Dr. Marie Irene Sy and Dr. Cecille Montales. 

Mayor Lino Cayetano talked to the vaccinators during the training which was held in preparation for the city's vaccination program aimed at covering all one million residents of Taguig. 

The city government will hold a preview of the vaccination process in a dry run to be held at the Taguig Field Hospital in Lakeshore Mega Complex. Trained vaccinators will demonstrate along with actors who will serve as stand-ins to receive the vaccines. 

The Taguig City government had earlier announced it has allotted a P1 billion budget for its COVID-19 vaccination program and signed an agreement with AstraZeneca and is also negotiating with other vaccine suppliers. 

Cayetano said the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines will come from the Department of Health (DOH) and the national government. 

“If we do not vaccinate, this means COVID-19 will not go away,” he said in a video. He said Taguig will have three mega vaccination facilities that will be ready by February and will also have 40 off-site centers for community vaccination. 

“Every barangay will have a vaccination area,” he said. Cayetano said vaccines that are currently available will be administered twice to each person and will receive the second dose after 21 days. 

Next month, the city government will also launch the Taguig City ID that will be used by residents for vaccination.
