Korean actress Park Si-yeon, 41, was caught by the police for drunk driving in broad daylight on Jan. 17.

Korean TV channel SBS “News 8” reported on Jan. 19 that Park Si-yeon hit a car at a three-way intersection in Songpa-gu, Seoul at 11:30 a.m. last Jan. 17. Traffic police witnessed the accident and went to the scene to investigate.

It was found that Park Si-yeon’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.097 percent, which merits the cancellation of her driver's license.

Park Si-yeon and the driver of the damaged car were not seriously injured. She was booked by the police for drunk driving and was sent home. She admitted to the police that she drove after drinking alcohol, according to Korean media.

She is facing charges for violation of Korea’s Road Traffic Act, which states that anyone caught driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated “shall be punished by imprisonment with prison labor for not more than 2 years or by a fine not exceeding 5 million won” or $4,538.

Park Si-yeon took to Instagram to say, “First of all, I sincerely apologize for causing controversy. It shouldn't be done for any reason. I am regretting and deeply reflecting on myself. I am also very sorry for those who support and care for me.”

Mystic Story, her agency, said the actress drank alcohol with an acquaintance at home on the evening of the 16th. Feeling that she no longer had a hangover, she used her own car and went out, it added.

“Park Si-yeon is also deeply sorry and reflecting. Once again, we sincerely apologize for causing controversy,” the agency added.

The actress appeared in the Korean drama “When My Love Blooms” last year. She became a cast member of the hit Korean variety show “Family Outing” in 2009.

In November 2013, Park Si-yeon and fellow actresses Lee Seung Yeon and Jang Mi-inae were convicted for illegal use of propofol, an injectable anaesthetic and sedative, which is classified as a narcotic by Korean health authorities.

They were sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years. Park Si-yeon was also ordered to pay 3.7 million ($3,361) in fines. She was accused of abusing propofol 126 times. She said she used propofol for medical purposes.
