Because he was not wearing a face mask, Makati Police busted a man carrying over P200, 000 worth of shabu in Makati City last Saturday night, January 16, 2021.
Jayson Ian Barnachea, 24, was asked by policemen to stop walking as he was not wearing a face mask which is required in Makati City following the passage of a city ordinance that requires people in the city to always wear face masks in order to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Initial investigation showed that Barnachea was walking along Bonifacio St. in Barangay Bangkal when he was approached by policemen around 9 p.m.
He was told to stop, however, Barnachea ran away prompting policemen to go after him.
After a short chase, policemen apprehended the suspect and was frisked.
Policemen found a paper bag from the pocket of Barnachea. It contained 50 sachets of powdery substance believed to be shabu.
The suspected shabu was weighing 30 grams and has an estimated street value of P204, 000, probers said.
Major Tyrone Valenzona, Makati Police Assistant Chief of Police for Operations (ACOPO), was told by the arresting policemen that Barnachea’s demeanor was very suspicious as he seemed “uneasy” when he saw the authorities.
Barnachea is now held at the Makati Police Central Police Station’s detention cell.
