Leni denies thousands of slippers found in NPA camp

Vice President Leni Robredo clarified Saturday reports that thousands of unused slippers bearing her name were found in an abandoned camp of the New People’s Army (NPA).

“It’s 2021 and the trolls are still recycling lies (facepalm emoji). The picture was taken in March 2016. The slippers were given away by Mayor Joy Belmonte at her birthday event, in support of our VP bid,” Robredo said in a Twitter post.

On Jan. 13, a netizen with the username @BlackSpecOps reposted a fake news from August 2017 on Twitter. The link from politicsfavradio.fm said that “thousands of unused Robredo’s slippers found in abandoned NPA camp.”

Robredo denied this that year, saying that the slippers were given by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte as part of her birth anniversary celebration.

Reports said that the photo was taken on March 14, 2016 during Belmonte’s birth anniversary celebration. The slippers, bearing Robredo’s name, were distributed for free to the residents of Barangay Bahay Toro in Quezon City.
