Boxes marked ‘US rocket warheads’ recovered in Cagayan


CAGAYAN – Residents of Claveria town here expressed alarm over the recovery of 24 boxes marked “US rocket warheads” at a coastal portion of Blue Lagoon, Barangay Taggat, on Wednesday, January 13.

Based on the report of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Claveria Police, three fishermen in the area spotted the boxes floating in the waters off Barangay Taggat.

The fishermen were identified as Amado Pacpaco, 44; Wilson Corpuz, 37; and Abraham Bagauisan.

The boxes were marked “Warheads, Rocket US”. And about 90 empty canisters were found in the boxes.

It was also reported that an unidentified foreign vessel unloaded the boxes in the waters off Claveria near Fuga Island in Aparri.

“Mga boxes at lalagyan lang. Isolated case, but of course kailangan pa din further investigation. And nag remind si Police Brigadier General Crizaldo Nieves, PRO2  RD, sa mga police units to conduct information operations para sa awareness ng public in case may mga similar objects na makita sila to be cautious and to immediately report to the police,” PRO-2 Spokesperson Lt Col . Andree Abella told The Manila Bulletin.

The PRO-2 Explosives and Ordnance Division identified the haul as “empty rocket warheads”.
