Infant reportedly abandoned by rebel mom to escape capture in Talisay City
BACOLOD CITY – Soldiers were able to recover a two-month-old baby boy, who was reportedly left behind by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) fleeing while trying to evade authorities in Hacienda Ambulog, Barangay San Fernando in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, January 13.

Troops of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (79th IB) were conducting security patrol in the area when two unidentified persons, believed to be rebels, were seen running from a house.
And in their haste, the suspected rebels left the infant, their valuables, and subversive documents with high intelligence value, according to the military.
The troops were able to interview the owner of the house, who said that a certain “Jandy” was the mother of the baby, and that she had to leave the child with them to be able to escape.
Lt. Col. Gerard Alvaran, 79th IB commander, said he was saddened about the what happened to the infant.
“Ka Jandy had a choice but she chose to leave her child, and go against the government,” he added.
The baby is now under the custody and care of the Talisay City Social Welfare and Development Office.
