Parish marks 160th year of canonical possession


The San Juan Nepomuceno Parish in Alfonso, Cavite marks the 160th year of its canonical possession or the year of its establishment as a parish this year.
 
Placed under the patronage of San Juan Nepomuceno or Saint John of Nepomuk or Saint John Nepomuceno, a saint from Bohemia, Czech Republic, the celebration will be marked on January 20.
 
The faithful are invited to join the praying of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 a.m. Parish priest Rev. Fr. Ariel delos Reyes will preside over the Eucharistic celebration at 5 p.m. It will be followed by a motorcade bearing the original image of San Juan Nepomuceno de Alfonso.
 
The novena in honor of the revered saint is on-going at 4 p.m. until January 19, followed by the celebration of the Holy Mass at 5 p.m.
 
The San Juan Nepomuceno Parish was established on January 20, 1861, two years after the establishment of the town of Alfonso, which used to be part of Indang, Cavite. The parish is under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Imus.
 
Devotees celebrate the feast of San Juan Nepomuceno, the patron of the confessional, every May 16.
