The threats of flooding and landslides persist in the next 24 hours due to continuous rainfall caused by the tail-end of the frontal system and low pressure area (LPA) east of Mindanao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the LPA at 170 kilometers southeast of General Santos City at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

While the weather disturbance is less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours, PAGASA said its combined effects with the tail-end of a frontal system may bring moderate to heavy rains over Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may also affect Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao.

Flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards, PAGASA warned.

It said adjacent or nearby areas that may not have been directly affected by the rainfall were urged to remain alert due to the possibility of flooding from surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" continues to prevail over Luzon on Tuesday, bringing some light rains and cold weather over this part of the country.

Due to the surge of amihan, a gale warning remains in effect over the western seaboards of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and Southern Luzon, northern and eastern coastlines of Northern Luzon, and eastern coasts of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

Fishing vessels and other small boats were warned from venturing out into the sea, while larger sea vessels were advised to remain alert against big waves.
