BHW partylist Rep. Angelica Natasha Co has expressed hope that the Senate would give due attention to her bill seeking to declare April 7 of every year as Barangay Health Workers Day to be known as "BHW Day."

The opposition lawmaker noted that the House of Representatives transmitted House Bill No. 7647 to the Senate on November 24, 2020, a day after it approved the measure.
“I urge the Senate to act on the measure. We will be pushing for the enactment of the bill into law this 18th Congress,” Co said in a VIber message.
She said the measure serves as Congress’ recognition to the "heroic deeds" of the 400, 000 BHWs in the country.
“Through this bill, we recognize our BHWs who are tirelessly working with or without pandemic,” Co said.
It was the House Committee on Local Government, chaired by Tarlac 3rd District Rep. Noel Villanueva that endorsed the plenary approval of the measure.
HB No. 7647 tasks the Department of Health (DOH), in cooperation with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and all local government units (LGUs) to enjoin to hold simple ceremonies or activities to highlight the indispensable role of BHWs.
"Barangay health workers are guardians of the nation's health worthy of emulation as patriots. Their role and contribution cannot be overemphasized and it is only fitting that we honor them by celebrating their heroic deeds," Co said.
"For decades, they have been known to us simply as volunteers who relentlessly served in the front lines unselfishly--saving lives even as they, too, are in peril or face difficulties and suffer from poverty, sickness, and misfortunes wrought by men and nature. For decades, they served as healers of our communities, not only of sickness or disease but of weary hearts and minds--giving hope even as they, too, are in distraught."
