TACLOBAN CITY - Due to torrential rains, areas in Samar, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar provinces are experiencing heavy flooding on Sunday, January 10.
In Can-avid, Eastern Samar, only roofs could be seen as houses were overwhelmed by flood in areas including Barangay 10, Baruk, GK Village, Malinao, and Barangay 5.
In Taft, Eastern Samar, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has closed the National Road along Camp 5 boundary-Jct Taft Eastern Samar due to possible rockfall and landslides in Barangay Binaloan. Jipapad town has also been submerged in water.
Flooding in some areas in Las Navas, San Roque, and Catarman in Northern Samar was also reported brought by the tail-end of a frontal system. Barangay Bantayan in San Roque was not passable due to flooding and heavy downpour.
In Samar province, leg-deep flood was being experienced in Barangay 5, Canlapwas, Catbalogan City due to incessant rains.
Gandara to Matuguinao Road was also not passable along Piñaplata Road due to flooding.
Only one lane could be used in Barangay Lokilokon, Paranas, Samar to San Jose de Buan road due to a landslide. Some houses in San Jose de Buan were also flooded.
A landslide was also reported in Brgy. Catalina along the provincial road from Barangay Catalina to Barangay San Fernando in Jiabong, Samar.
Orange rainfall warning was hoisted in Biliran, while yellow warning was raised in Eastern Samar, Samar, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
