BTS, NCT 127 top physical album sales in US in 2020: MRC Data year-end report

K-pop boy bands BTS grabbed the top spot and NCT 127 placed sixth in the top 10 physical album sales in the US in 2020.

MRC Data, formerly Nielsen Music, released the “Year-End Report: US 2020” that was presented in collaboration with Billboard covering the period Jan. 3 to Dec. 31, 2020.

In the Top Physical Albums in the US in 2020, BTS’ “Map of the Soul: 7,” released on Feb. 21, 2020, grabbed the No. 1 spot, selling 646,000 copies while their “BE” album, released on Nov. 20, placed fifth with 252,000 copies sold.

NCT 127’s “NCT #127: Neo Zone: The 2nd Album,” released on March 6, 2020, placed sixth with 249,000 copies sold.

In the 2019 year-end report, BTS’ “Map of the Soul: Persona” placed second overall in the Top 10 Physical Albums in the US with 415,000 copies sold.

According to the report, US physical album sales (including vinyl LPs) in 2020 totaled 68 million copies, down 7.4 percent from 2019’s 73.5 million copies.

In the Top Albums year-end report based on total sales, BTS’ “Map of the Soul: 7” placed second with 674,000 in sales behind Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” which had 1.27 million. In 2019, BTS’ “Map of the Soul: Persona” placed sixth overall on the Top Albums chart with 454,000.

BTS also placed No. 1 in the Top Digital Song Sales in the US in 2020 with the Grammy-nominated “Dynamite” selling 1.3 million.

In 2020, US digital song sales totaled 233.8 million, a decrease of 22.3 percent from 2019’s 301.1 million.
