5,808 families affected by 'Ulysses' remain in evacuation centers —DSWD
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reported that more than 5,800 families affected by the onslaught of Typhoon “Ulysses” in November last year remain in evacuation centers.
Based on the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), as of 6 p.m., January 6, around 5, 808 families or 22, 645 individuals continue to stay in 161 evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, it reported that a total of 34 families or 103 persons opted to stay with their relatives and/or friends.
The DSWD said the number of families affected by Ulysses had reached 1,266,426 or 5,201,024 persons in 7,311 barangays from the eight most-affected regions.
So far, the DSWD, the local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations (NGOs) and the private sector have provided P267 million worth of assistance to the affected families from eight regions.
According to DROMIC report, a total of 209, 324 houses were damaged by Ulysses. Of the damaged houses, 26, 446 were totally damaged and 182, 878 were partially damaged.
The report identified National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) as among the regions affected by Ulysses.
