Filipino skateboarding sensation Margielyn Didal opened the New Year with a bang after being nominated in the inaugural 2020 Asia Skateboarding Awards.
The 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist announced the news on Instagram last week, hinting the possibility of bagging the top award Asia Skater of the Year with the hashtag #ASIASOTY2020.
" go and get it," wrote Didal, who became the first Filipino to represent the country in the Street League Skateboarding and X Games in 2018.
Per Asia Skateboarding Awards, the Asia Skater of the Year winners from both men's and women's categories are set to receive $1,500 (approximately P73,00).
Didal has added another accolade in her stellar resume after joining 78 women from over 24 countries to be nominated in the awards.
After the selection process through Kenny Reed, technical director and renowned skater and coach of Myanmar's skateboarding team, winners will be determined by a panel of jury composed of global skateboarding icons.
Other awards include Vertical Ripper, Style for Miles, Asia Rookie of the Year, Hidden Gem, Creative Sole, Fastest feet in the East, and Trick of the Year.
The 21-year-old Didal followed up her 2018 Asian Games gold medal (Street) by winning two more in the 2019 SEA Games in the Game of skate and Street categories.
On local shore, Didal ruled the 2019 Philippine National Skateboarding Championship in the same category.
