Thirdy Ravena injured his shooting hand in the second half of San-En Neophoenix’s heartbreaking 81-80 road loss to the Shibuya Sun Rockers in their Japan B.League game Saturday at the Aoyama Gakuin University Memorial Hall.
Ravena left the game with 5:30 remaining in the third quarter several minutes after hurting his right hand during a looseball play, and was later seen on the bench grimacing in pain while receiving treatment from the team’s medical staff.
The former Ateneo star was nowhere to be seen on the bench during the homestretch that saw the Neophoenix absorb a stinging setback when former NBA player James McAdoo scored a putback with 0.3 seconds left to give the Sun Rockers the victory.
He finished with six points on 3-of-8 shooting with four rebounds and one block while turning the ball over four times in 11 minutes.
It was San-En’s third straight defeat and dropped to 5-21 after starting the new year on the wrong foot by blowing an 80-69 lead with over two minutes to go in the match.
Stevan Jelovac had 19 points and 16 rebounds while fellow import Kyle Hunt added 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and four blocks for San-En before fouling out.
McAdoo, who won two NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, topscored with 20 points for Shibuya.
Ravena’s status will be known by the time the Neophoenix attempt to exact a measure of revenge against the Sun Rockers in their return match slated 1 p.m. Manila time Sunday afternoon at the same venue.
