BACOLOD CITY - A teenaged boy died, while two others were injured, after they figured in a vehicular accident along Araneta Street in Barangay Tangub here on Friday, January 1.
Killed in the accident was Francis Batac, 14, while police withheld the names of the two wounded minors, aged 13 and 17 years old.
Bacolod City Police Station 8 Commander Capt. Jun Ray Batadlan, head of Police Station 8, said the accident happened when Batac’s 17-year-old friend asked him and his 13-year-old companion to go with him for a ride on his employer’s pick-up truck on New Year’s Day.
With the 17-year-old behind the wheel, the three friends on the pick-up sped down Araneta Street until the driver, who was apparently drunk, lost control of the vehicle.
The pick-up swerved and flipped to its side, causing injuries to the three.
“They were on their way home after roaming the streets past 1 a.m. pero nakainom sila eh (but they were intoxicated),” the station commander added.
Batadlan said it took a while before rescuers could extricate Batac from the vehicle. All three victims were brought to a hospital, where Batac was declared dead.
The two other minors sustained fractures in different parts of the body, and were still confined at the hospital.
Batadlan said the families of the minors involved in the accident have yet to talk to them.
