PBA: Should family visits be allowed in proposed 'bubble'? Coaches weigh in

As the PBA discusses plans on where and how to have a ‘bubble’ for the possible resumption of the Philippine Cup, NLEX coach Yeng Guiao said there ought to be a discussion with coaches and players at least on the setup.
Guiao said his concern is more on the mental aspect of going into the bubble.

Kaming coaches and players ang sisistensiyahan ng two months so sana makapagbigay din kami ng ideas,” Guiao told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview Sunday.
“Ang isa kasi na kailangang ma-address is mental issue kasi hindi rin biro yung malayo sa family, but at the same time we need to preserve, keep the integrity of the bubble na gagawin ng PBA.”
Guiao is proposing family members be allowed to visit players and coaches once a week.

He said this setup is doable if the facility is either in Metro Manila or nearby provinces like Pampanga, Batangas, Cavite and Laguna that are accessible by family members via car.
Once inside the bubble, players and coaches could only see family members since physical contact like hugs or kisses should be prohibited – separated by some form of barrier.

“Puwedeng ganito ang set up, if you’re in a hotel, maybe they can set up an area – conference room or coffee shop where family members can visit, pero meron kang barrier,” said Guiao.
“Biro mo ang sintensya mo two months, tapos wala ka pang dalaw… but if they would allow, and then may barrier ka, I think it’s still safe. Maybe they can do that in the semifinals and finals.”

San Miguel Beer mentor Leo Austria shares the sentiments about dealing with the mental aspect.
However, with the technology now where online meetings and video calls are the ‘normal’ things to keep up with friends and families, he said it is fine with him if his family would stay home.

Phoenix Fuel Masters coach Louie Alas, for his part, has a different idea on having family members inside the PBA bubble.
