Quest for hitmakers

A nationwide talent search aimed to discover promising unsigned composers has been launched by no less than the Viva Music Group.

Dubbed Viva Musika, entry forms will be available online starting Sept. 16 until Nov. 24 at [email protected].

Composers are required to submit three original songs that have never been recorded or performed before or licensed to any music publisher.

The search intensifies the company’s long-running efforts to look for hidden talents and to nurture their music careers.

“The music business is dependent on compositions and these compositions are the works of composers,” said Vic del Rosario, Jr., Viva Communications chairman and chief operating officer. “We cannot have the hit songs without these talented creators.”

Vic has been at the forefront of the local music scene since he formed Vicor Music Corporation in the late ‘60s. The company

discovered and led some of the greatest songwriters in the country to the peak of their careers, including George Canseco, Willy Cruz, Jose Mari Chan, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, the Juan de la Cruz Band with Pepe Smith, Wally Gonzales and Mike Hanopol, Dennis and Rene Garcia of Hotdog, Rey Valera, YoyoyVillame, Freddie Aguilar, and Odette Quesada.

His magic touch remained unrivalled when he formed Viva Records 39 years ago. It saw the release of memorable songs written by Vehnee Saturno, Louie Ocampo, Ogie Alcasid, Moy Ortiz, Edith Gallardo, Freestyle, Rivermaya, Itchyworms, Soapdish; up to the Juans, ALLMO$T, John Roa, Juan Caoile, This Band, Karencita, Because, Caleb Santos and more.

Viva Musika will yield 10 composers by Dec. 18, all picked by a panel of judges. They will sign contracts with Viva Music Publishing and receive P100,000 each in advance royalties. Their songs get the chance to be recorded and used in the soundtrack of a Viva production.
