Number of COVID-19 cases surpass 3,000-mark in Davao region

DAVAO CITY -   After recording only one case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection last Monday, the roster of cases in the Davao region ballooned to over the 3,000-mark after 67 persons tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

Based on the COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin for September 29, the number of recorded COVID-19 cases is now at 3,028, with 534 active cases. 

The Department of Health in Region 11 (DOH 11) said 55 new cases were recorded in Davao City, five in Davao del Sur, three each in Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental and one in Davao Occidental.

It said that, among the latest cases, four were locally stranded individuals (LSIs), 42 were local cases, and 21 were still being verified.

The DOH said 29 have severe symptoms, 163 have mild symptoms and 342 were asymptomatic.

Davao City has the highest number of recorded cases at 1,910, followed by Davao del Norte with 351, Davao Oriental with  266, Davao de Oro with 230, Davao del Sur with 192 and Davao Occidental with 73. cases.

The DOH also recorded four deaths in Davao City on Tuesday. Davao region has a total of 92 reported deaths due to COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, 22 new recoveries were also recorded. 

Among these, 13 were from Davao City, five from Davao Oriental, three from Davao del Sur, and one from Davao del Norte, the DOH said. Davao region has recorded a total of 2,402 recoveries.
