K-pop boy band Treasure maintained their ranking as the top rookie artist this year as they broke their own record for first-week album sales.
Treasure recently released their new album “The First Step: Chapter Two” after debuting last Aug. 7 with the single album “The First Step: Chapter One.”
According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, “The First Step: Chapter Two” sold 169,586 copies in the first week of release from Sept. 22 to 28, higher than the 160,614 copies that “The First Step: Chapter One” sold in the same period, or a difference of 8,972 copies.

When “The First Step: Chapter One” was released, Hanteo Chart said it recorded “the highest Initial Chodong (first week of release) sales record among the artists who debuted in 2020.”
With “The First Step: Chapter Two,” the chart said, “Treasure made a bold statement as a super rookie of 2020 by breaking their own Initial Chodong record and ranking 1st among the artists debuted in 2020’s Initial Chodong sales amount.”
The music video for their main track “I Love You” has garnered 20 million views on YouTube as of writing since its release on Sept. 18.
Treasure is composed of Choi Hyun Suk, Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Mashiho, Yoon Jae Hyuk, Asahi, Bang Ye Dam, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeong Woo and So Jung Hwan.
Today, Sept. 30, Koreans have started celebrating Chuseok, or Thanksgiving Day, a major holiday. This is the first time that Treasure will be celebrating Chuseok as a group and to mark the occasion, they recorded a video while wearing hanbok, or traditional Korean clothes.
“There were many hardships this year in 2020, but I believe we can all gather our strength to overcome the hardships,” said Choi Hyun Suk, according to YG blog. Treasure greeted viewers by saying, “Spend a bright and happy Chuseok.”
YG Entertainment gave Treasure members a break from activities for five days so they can enjoy Chuseok. The four Japanese members of the group, Yoshi, Mashiho, Asahi and Haruto, will spend the holiday with Korean members.
