Better Internet, better play as NRX wins first series in Garena Qualifiers

With the Internet connection cooperating this time, NRX Jeremiah 29:11 bounced back at the expense of Singaporean rival Divinity.Uprising, 2-1, in the Call of Duty Mobile (CODM) World Championship-Garena Qualifiers on Tuesday night. 

NRX did not encounter lag problems as opposed to its 0-3 defeat to Indonesia's Dunia Games Esports on Monday night as the Filipino squad seized its first points in the online qualifying tournament. 

"Naging kalmado kami today and mas naging focused. 'Yung Internet connection ngayon mas maayos kasi same server din kami ng Singapore. Nagka-error lang kami sa third game pero maganda pa rin pinakita naming performance," NRX coach Michael "Kyaaah" Belaya told the Manila Bulletin in an online interview. 

(We were calm and more focused. The Internet connection was better because we are on the same server with Singapore. We just had an error in the third game but still it was good performance.) 

The PH team moved up to No. 5 in the six-team tilt with two points. Only the top four teams in the group stage will advance to the single elimination playoffs. 

NRX also avenged its loss to Divinity in the ESL MSP Championship-Southeast Asia finals earlier this month. 

Captain JC "Jayzee" Rivera and the crew bucked a 4-43 start in Hardpoint at the Firing Range. John Kenneth "KenDy" Pimentel with an Annihilator then sparked the team's solid defense inside the Barracks Hut and at the Branch Road to post a 150-89 victory. 

Benj "CRUSH" Trinidad also stepped up with 23 assists to go with 15 kills. 

NRX sustained its momentum in Search and Destroy still at the Firing Range, zooming to a 4-0 lead behind Kennedy "iDra" Mondoy's monstrous Chopper play before taking a 6-1 triumph. 

Jerrold "Woopiiee" Regay and iDra pushed NRX to a commanding 75-49 lead in the first half of Domination at the Meltdown. 

But Divinity's XS1 Goliath gameplay allowed them to lock down the B site and steal a point with a narrow 150-137 win. 

NRX will next battle Malaysia's Resurgence (formerly 21 Huntsmen) at 9 p.m. today.
