There is a slim chance that the Premier Volleyball League would be holding at least one conference this year.

Sports Vision President Ricky Palou bared this recently as the commercial league still awaits the approval from the Inter-Agency Task Force to resume competitions.

Palou said they need at least two months to give the players and teams the ample time to get back into competitive shape.

“So kahit maaprubahan kami this month, the earliest we could hold a conference is January na,” he said.

The PVL initially submitted a request directly to the Department of Health for the league to be allowed to hold a competition last June. The copy was also furnished to the Philippine Sports Commission.

As a commercial league, PVL falls in a confusing situation as its jurisdiction is neither under the PSC, which is in charge of amateur sports, nor Games and Amusements Board (GAB), which is in charge of professionals.

“Mahirap yung case namin kasi walang supervising body compared to PBA, which is under GAB, or collegiate leagues, which is under CHED (Commission on Higher Education). Kasi if magka-problema during the tournament, walang magsa-sanction,” Palou said.

“So pinag-aaralan pa nila.”

Despite this, Palou hopes PVL will still be approved to make way with their logistics, technical and player preparations.

The league typically runs a three-conference season with at least eight participating squads.

PVL is one of the commercial leagues awaiting IATF approval for tournament resumption. Also seeking the go-signal are the Philippine Superliga and Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, to name a few.
