Top local talents that usher in the new chapter of audio streaming

Podcasts have been around since the ‘80s. Today, the industry has gotten bigger, richer, and more professionalized, thanks to its format, which fits our busy lifestyle perfectly. With the digital shift caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, more attention is being given to audioblogging and storytelling. According to data from Oberlo, more than 850,000 active channels and 30 million episodes exist at present.

A recent survey was also conducted in the country by leading music streaming app Spotify with YouGov*, which reveals that audio listening is a huge part of the everyday lives of Filipinos. The findings shows that 85 percent of audiences tune in to some type of music or podcast content throughout the day while 74 percent of Pinoys want time away from their screens. Listening to podcast is a great alternative to be entertained, informed, and ease anxiety.

It’s a given that there are so much audio content worth listening to and following. We’re focusing on local ones, however, that are a cut above the rest. These programs or channels are good for various types of listeners, but all bring Filipino pride.

‘As Filipinos are looking for ways to be entertained, stay informed, and relax while spending more time at home, podcasts can be the perfect companion.’

“We are thrilled to work with these top Filipino podcasters, storytellers in their own right, who deliver fresh perspectives and belong to a new generation of creators,” said Carl Zuzarte, Spotify head of studios for Southeast Asia. “We know that listening to audio content is a huge part of Filipinos’ everyday lives. And as Filipinos are looking for ways to be entertained, stay informed, and relax while spending more time at home, podcasts can be the perfect companion.”

Carl explains that these partnerships are just the beginning of the company’s plans for podcasts in the country. “We’re at the start of a long and exciting podcast journey in the Philippines—a market ripe with storytellers. We are continuously looking for the best creators that can cater to diverse listener interests as we move into the next chapter of audio streaming in the country,” he says.
