PH among top 5 countries with most avid K-pop fans - Twitter


Recent data released by Twitter showed the Philippines among top 5 countries in the world with the most avid K-pop fans.

Twitter released the data to celebrate 10 years of #KpopTwitter. It included the most mentioned K-pop artists and songs and top 20 markets for K-pop in the world.

“Through your passion, #KpopTwitter is one of the largest global conversations on Twitter today. K-pop and Twitter have grown side by side over the past decade, and despite the global COVID outbreak, there were 6.1 billion K-pop related Tweets in the past 12 months worldwide,” according to Twitter blog.

From July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, there were 6.1 billion K-pop tweets around the world.

According to Twitter and K-pop Radar, the Philippines is No. 5 in the top 20 markets in the world for K-pop based on the number of K-pop unique users on Twitter.

US is No. 1 followed by Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Argentina, India, Turkey, Spain, UK, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Vietnam and Russia.

Based on the number of K-pop related tweets from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, the Philippines is No. 4.

Thailand emerged on top followed by South Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, US, Brazil, Malaysia, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, India, Vietnam, Singapore, Peru, Chile, UK, France, Canada, Turkey and Taiwan.

In the Philippines, the most mentioned K-pop artists in the past year were BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, TXT and TWICE. In South Korea, the birthplace of K-pop, the most mentioned are BTS, EXO, TXT, BLACKPINK and Seventeen. BTS became the most mentioned in 20 markets except Thailand where GOT7 is No. 1.

Ten years ago in July 2010, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation and Big Bang were the top three most mentioned K-pop artists in the world.

In the past year, the top 10 most mentioned K-pop artists in the world are BTS, EXO, GOT7, BLACKPINK, NCT 127, Monsta X, Seventeen, NCT Dream, TWICE and Stray Kids.

In the same period, the most mentioned songs are EXO’s “Obsession” followed by BTS’ “ON,” “Boy With Luv” and “Black Swan,” SuperM’s “Jopping,” BTS’ “DNA,” GOT7’s “Not By The Moon,” BLACKPINK’s “How You Like That” and TWICE’s “Feel Special.”

The top 10 fastest-rising Kpop artists in the world based on highest growth in tweets on Twitter globally from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 are Stray Kids, ATEEZ, TXT, IZ*ONE, SuperM, AB6IX, WayV, CIX, Loona and ITZY.
