De los Santos moves closer to No. 1 spot

World No. 2 James De los Santos has improved his ranking points after winning a pair of gold medals that includes the 4th SportData eTournament World Series over the weekend.

Thanks to his collection of impressive victories in online tournaments, the Filipino karate sensation has earned 1450 points, which increased his total to 7105 or just 1020 points behind world No. 1 Eduardo Garcia of Portugal who now has 8125 points.

“I’ve made it this far… and now I’m closer to the No. 1 spot,” De los Santos told Manila Bulletin. “I just have to continue with my training and competing in more tournaments to get there.”

“It’s one step at a time for me. I’m in the final of another tournament now, so really one step at a time.”

The 30-year-old De los Santos defeated Garcia in the final of the SportData eTournament World Series 24.8-24.5, and Murilo Alves of Brazil 24.6-23.6 in the final of the Hatamoto Kai Mitad Del Mundo E-Tournament.

De los Santos now has a total of 10 gold medals after he ruled early this month the E-Champions Trophy World Series, Miyamoto Musashi Five Rings event and the 2nd Dutch Open E-Tournament.

He also won the e-Karate Games 2020 and the Athletes E-Tournament last August, the Balkan Open eTournament in July, the Korokotta Cup last June and the Palestine International Karate Cup last April.

De los Santos has reached the final round of the Tokaido Maribor Open eTournament where he will face Domont Matias Moreno of Switzerland. He won against Anghel Sanchez of Bolivia in the semifinal.
