Kang Daniel, Treasure top monthly album chart for August


K-pop solo artist Kang Daniel and rookie boy band Treasure copped the first two places in the monthly album chart for August. 

Kang Daniel, former center of boy band Wanna One, released “Magenta” on Aug. 3, the second in his color trilogy album after “Cyan” in March. 

According to Hanteo Chart, “Magenta” topped the August monthly album chart with 324,742 copies sold, higher than “Cyan,” which recorded 261,934 copies in monthly sales in March and placed third overall.

“Magenta” debuted at No. 1 on the chart, selling 192,278 copies on the first day on Aug. 3 and topped the weekly Hanteo chart with 323,167 copies sold for the period Aug. 3 to 9, compared to 261,459 copies in first-week sales for “Cyan.” 

K-pop boy band Treasure, the new group under YG Entertainment, placed second in August when their debut album “The First Step: Chapter One” sold 169,198 copies for the month. 

The album sold 121,943 copies on the first day on Aug. 13, which Hanteo Chart declared as “the highest Initial Chodong (first week of release) sales record among the artists who debuted in 2020.” It went on to sell 160,614 copies in its first week. 

Treasure eventually topped Hanteo’s weekly album chart from Aug. 10 to 16 with 128,767 copies of “The First Step: Chapter One” sold.

Placing third in August is girl group ITZY whose “Not Shy” album sold 150,825 copies for the month. The album recorded 144,355 copies in sales for the first week, compared to 64,659 copies for their previous album “It’z Me” that was released in March. 

Fourth is boy band ATEEZ’s “Zero: Fever Part 1,” which sold 133,461 copies in August. The album was released on July 29 and garnered 233,399 copies in sales in the first week. ATEEZ placed third in the monthly album chart for July by selling 208,321 copies in just three days. 

Girl group (G)I-DLE grabbed fifth place with the album “Dumdi Dumdi” selling 109,812 copies for the month since its release on Aug. 3. The album sold 94,587 copies in the first week of release. 

Bagging the sixth to 10th places are: Cravity’s “Season 2. Hideout: The New Day We Step Into,” 88,586 copies; SSAK3’s “Beach Again,” 83,595; Victon member Hang Seung-woo’s “Fame,” 71,763; Oneus’ “Lived,” 57,467; and Dreamcatcher’s “Dystopia,” 47,132.
