ILIGAN CITY – Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz has admitted that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In his Facebook post on September 1, Vera Crus confirmed that the result of his reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on August 30 came back as positive.
As such, the city’s Emergency Operation Center Health Cluster tagged Vera Cruz as IC-326, who voluntarily underwent a swab test after councilor Nilo Pardillo was tested positive for the virus.
Vera Cruz added that he had direct contact with Pardillo during a weekly radio program Kapihan sa Iligan and a meeting last August 22, together with Mayor Celso G. Regencia and other department heads of the city government.
However, Vera Cruz noted that he was not experiencing any symptoms, and was physically feeling well.
"Positive ang resulta sa maong 'swab test na gipahigayon kanato, wala akoy simtomas nga gibati ug piskay atong panglawas", he said.
“I call on Iliganons to takes care of oneself, protect our love ones and the community, and pray to God Almighty and to the City' s Patron Saint Michael the Archangel that this crisis we are all facing will soon be over so that we can go back to normal,” Vera Cruz added.
He is now quarantined at an isolation facility.
Meanwhile, Iligan City now has 33 of its 44 barangays with confirmed COVID-19 cases, with Barangay Mandulog being the latest addition with one infection.
