Drive-in theater soon at SM Mall of Asia grounds

New normal goes retro with SM Cinema deciding to revive the drive-in theater.

Once popular in the ‘50s, the drive-in theater lost its appeal in the past few decades following the establishments of malls.

But with new protocols in place following the coronavirus pandemic, the drive-in theater is making a huge comeback.

First tried out in SM Pampanga's Ampitheater in San Fernando, SM Cinema announced they are now pushing forward with the project, converting a portion of the Mall of Asia concert grounds located in Pasay City into another drive-in theater spot.

According to SM Cinema Movies By The Bay will open on Sept. 9 and the ticket costs P400 per person (with regular popcorn, bottled water, beef franks).

To maintain contactless transactions, all tickets should be purchased only through www.smtickets.com.

Each vehicle can have a maximum of four people inside. All occupants must have their face masks on at all times while ensuring social distancing.

Attendees must also be between the ages 21 and 59, pursuant to the safety guidelines set by the IATF.

In the same announcement, SM Cinema said movie screenings will be held Wednesdays to Sundays.
