Bradz comes up with 'hugot' songs during pandemic

Published Sep 18, 2020 03:57 pm

The pandemic brought sadness and loss to many people but it also paved the way for others to learn new things and grow.

This is what Sean Naval, lead vocalist of the pop band Bradz, shared when asked how the pandemic affected the band during an online interview recently.

"Nakakalungkot na mawalay sa mga pamilya at kaibigan. Nandoon iyung lungkot na hindi ka rin makagala," said Sean.

But the lockdown gave members of the band more time to focus on their music. Sean and his siblings band mates Chris Naval (vocals/drums) and JC Naval (vocals/bassist) of Taytay, Rizal were able to pool their resources together and come up with new materials.

"Dahil sa pandemic, nakagawa kami ng mga kanta na may hugot. Nag-e-enjoy din kami sa live streaming. Nakagawa kami ng bagong kanta na napapanahon. Nagpapasalamat kami kay Kuya Daniel Razon sa suporta na bigay niya sa banda. To God be the glory," Sean said.

It was eight years ago when the siblings started doing music together when they joined an acoustic band competition at a mall.

After the local competition, the singing trio, once known as “Voysing”, started to appear in several gigs. They have performed in the iconic "Wish Bus" where they sang “Pag-ibig” and jammed with celebrities at the inaugural Wish Music Awards at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in 2015.

In 2018, Bradz signed up a management deal with Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), Inc. It is during this time that the band officially named themselves as “Bradz” (colloquial term for “brothers”).

The band signed a distribution agreement for their original songs with Warner Music Philippines. BMPI and Warner Music which initially released the single “Pag-ibig” on all digital platforms.

As the song became popular, ABS CBN’s Sunday night program "Gandang Gabi Vice" used it as a background music during the guesting of the famous Korean girl group “Momoland”.

The band achieved another success when they interpreted the song “Tugtog,” composed by John Paul Salazar, which was declared the grand champion at the "A Song of Praise Music Festival (ASOP)" Grand Finals.

Bradz will be one featured artists at a virtual concert produced by BMPI on Sunday, September 27, at 7 pm. The digital show will also feature special performances by The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 alumnus and former Rivermaya lead vocalist Jason Fernandez, acoustic folksy pop singer- songwriter Eloisa Jayloni, Filipino rock band Itchyworms and premiere singer songwriter Barbie Almalbis-Honasan.
