DOT, Powerpuff Girls team-up to promote new normal protocols for travelling

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has teamed up with Cartoon Network’s famous characters The Powerpuff Girls to help people remember what they need to do to prepare for their trips as several Philippine destinations begin to reopen to tourists.

Featuring the country’s top tourism sites, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, the trio sisters who were much loved by generations of viewers, led a tourism campaign S.A.F.E. T.R.I.P. to promote the new normal protocols when travelling.

“S is for Sanitize, A is for Avoid Mass Gatherings, F is for Face Masks, E is for Electronic Payments, T is for Temperature check, R is for Rules and Regulations, I is for Information, and P is for Physical Distancing. Easy, even a preschooler can get it,” the DOT said.

According to the tourism department, the choice of The Powerpuff Girls for the public service announcement is purposeful, as the animated series introduced the concept of “girl power” to a young audience in the late ‘90s and who still love the show even until today.

“The cartoon continues to evoke fond memories for millennial viewers and their parents, who were drawn to and inspired by the three strong female characters,” it said.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, who has long advocated for the empowerment of women through tourism, is also a fan of the crime fighting cuties.

The series celebrated its 22nd anniversary this year and further solidified its influence across generations of families.

“If we lived in the city of Townsville, the girls would undoubtedly stop COVID-19 with their special abilities. For us in the Philippines, we can at least have a SAFE TRIP,” it added.
